Last night at a multi faith commemoration at Quang Minh Buddhist Temple, I lit a candle and said a prayer for Van Viet Truong, a courageous shopkeeper who gave his life to help a neighbour.

Mr Truong typifies the glorious unselfishness and community spirit which the Vietnamese community brings to Australia.

I wish I could nominate him for Australian Of The Year.

I urge all people in this nation who care about justice and safety, to remember this man.

Who will pray that we learn from and honor the legacy of Van Viet Truong.
