This morning in church, I heard a wonderful priest talk of Lent as a time for reset.

A Great Reset?

The priest talked of Lent as a time to reset and of Jesus going into the wilderness; 40 days with no food; a letting go of entitlements and expectations of selfish power

The priest said “Desert strips away illusions.” leading us to the truth of “who we are.” This phrase reminds me of Pope Benedict’s “Lent stimulates us to let The Word of God penetrate our life and in this way to know the fundamental truth: who we are, where we come from, where we must go …..” and Pat Buchanan in Houston in 1992: “My friends, this election is about more than who gets what. It is about who we are.”

In Lent seeing God clearly helps us determine our choices.

Allowing us where necessary to reset.

So far this year, Donald Trump has reset how the world sees Volodymyr Zelensky and has opened up the possibility of visualizing Gaza as a New Riviera. He is trying to reset the hatred to hospitality.

What will follow?

Will Trump be crucified?

Or will Trump crucify bureaucrats who destroy human freedoms?
